::About the hospital The Specialists Hospital was formed in Kochi, India in the year 1982 under the leadership of Dr. K.R.Rajappan, when the concept of Plastic surgery was relatively new. Critical care of the highest standard is provided by our Intensive Care Unit which provide complete life support systems.   Our Founder The founder, Dr K.R Rajappan was born in 1930 in a small picturesque village called Meloor in the Trichur district in Kerala. After his schooling in Meloor , he went on to take his Doctor’s degree from Cuttack Medical College in Orissa. Then he went on to Patna to take his Masters Degree in Plastic Surgery which was a relatively new field at that time. He then started the Plastic Surgery Unit in Kottayam Medical College. He was one of the only three Plastic Surgeons in Kerala during the period. After a few years, in 1974, he left the government services to start private practice in the city of Kochi. He was the first Plastic Surgeon in Kochi at that time, and for some time to come he was Consultant Plastic Surgeon to a number of Private Hospitals in Kochi. He became the Director of Lal Memorial Hospital in Irinjalakuda in 1978. And in 1982 he relinquished his post to start his own hospital under the name of Specialists Hospital. Dr. Rajappan was the first person to do hair transplant in Kerala. The first free plastic Surgery clinic was introduced in 1974. Since then, he has done over 200 free Plastic surgery operations every year for poor patients from all over Kerala. He has brought many a smile to the face of poor children and adults alike, disfigured with cleft palate, cleft lip etc. In 1980 he got the ‘Individual International Meritorious Service Medal’ from the International Lions President for the free services he has rendered.
