The term plastic surgery comes from the Greek word plastikos, which means to mould or to give form. Plastic surgery aims at restoring normal form to body parts that had been deformed at birth, by injury or disease. The department is manned by Dr. K.R.Rajappan MS-Plastic Surgery, Dr. R.Jayakumar MS, MCh, DipNB, Dr. A.J.Guild MBBS and Dr. P.Kishore MS,MCh, Dr.Senthil Kumar, MS, MCh, Dr.Asha Cyriac, MS, MCh providing state of the art service in almost every aspect of Plastic Surgery and Cosmetic Surgery

The Center for tissue transfer and replantation established in the year 1990 was the first department of its kind in the state of Kerala and one of the few micro vascular centers in the country.

The center also provides training program in plastic and micro vascular surgery. Every year the department organizes international workshops.

 
CLEFT LIP:
Comprehensive care is provided to the cleft patients by a team of plastic surgeons, maxillofacial surgeons, orthodontists and speech therapists. The treatment includes alveolar bone grafting, cleft lip nose correction and later on osteotomies of the mandible and maxilla to improve the cosmesis of these patients. All these osteotomies are done through an intraoral approach. 
HYPOSPADIAS:
The department does single stage procedure, and with magnification the results have improved tremendously. The fistula rate is only 5%.

Cosmetic Surgery

The demand for cosmetic surgery is on the rise and we perform all kinds of cosmetic surgery, some of which are listed below.

Mastopexy: is lifting the breast that has sagged with age.

Microvascular Surgery:
Free tissue transfer and replantation have become a routine in the department. Free flap transfers are used for reconstruction of the upper extremity, lower extremity, the head and neck and breast.

Hand Surgery:
With the help of well-trained staff in microvascular surgery we regularly undertake reconstruction of complex hand injuries. Replantation surgery is a very routine procedure in the department. We average about 60 to 70 replants a year.

Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty): 
Reduction of the protruding flabby tummy is a commonly done procedure. It greatly enhances the body image of the patient. The procedure is often done under epidural anesthesia, the advantage being that the patient is almost totally pain free after the surgery.  


Rhinoplasty: Cosmetic surgery on the nose.


Bypass Surgery for Diabetic Foot:
Many patients with diabetes develop ulcers in the foot which do not heal. Many a time this is due to reduced blood supply to the limb. These patients need to be investigated with angiograms of the lower limb and may many a time improve with bypass operations of the blood vessels of the limb. Microvascular surgery has made the results of such bypass operations much better.

 

Blepharoplasty:
With age bags appear in the lower and upper eyelids giving the face a tired look. Blepharoplasty corrects baggy eye lids and give the eyes a more youthful appearance.

   
Penis Reconstruction

LIPOSUCTION & BODY CONTOURING: is a popular, safe procedure for removing localized collection of fat and thus contouring the body to a more aesthetic shape.

LIP REDUCTION: surgery to reduce thick lips.
