Urology.

| Being the
first laparoscopic Urology unit in Kerala State, The department
is proud to be the pioneer in Laparoscopic Urology in the state.
Almost all procedures which were done by the open method in
the past are being done Laparoscopically routinely. |

| This includes
nephrectomies, nephroureterectomies (kidney
removal for benign and cancer), Pyeloplasties in infants
and adults for kidney obstruction, Orchidopexies
(treatment for undescended testis), Varicocoelectomies
for infertility, Uretero lithotomies(for urinary
stones) & other procedures such as renal cyst deroofing,
etc.. |

Urology
Team
The Department
is headed by Dr R Vijayan [MS, DNB,FRCS(E),FRCS,Dip
Urol(Lon),
Laparoscopy fellow (Taiwan)] who was trained as a Urologist in UK
and Taiwan and is a well known senior consultant. He was the first
Laparoscopic Urologist in Kerala and has pioneered many advanced
Laparoscopic procedures in Kerala. He has many publications in International
Journals and has won awards in South Indian and Kerala Urology Associations
conferences.
The second
Urologist is Dr Joy P MCh.
with more than 7 years experience in treating urological malignancies.
The Urology Department
has consistently provided for more than 10 years, quality care with
a personal touch for thousands of patients i from India and abroad.
In this Endeavour it has pioneered many Urological treatments. It
excels in providing Minimally Invasive & Reconstructive Urology
treatment for various Urological diseases. It has pioneered many
Laparoscopic Urology procedures in Kerala.
PROSTATIC
DISEASES
Prostatic disease is the commonest male urological problem and
is routinely treated in the department both medically and surgically. |

FOR URINARY STONES |
| ESWL,
PCNL, URS, Laparoscopy |
| We
offer state of the art methods of treatment for urinary stones.
Extracorporeal Shock Wave Lithotripter (ESWL ) enables anesthesia
free outpatient treatment for stones, decreasing cost and increasing
safety. URS(Ureteroscopy),PCNL & Laparoscopy is used to
remove urinary stone by endoscopes through the urinary tract
or by special key holes. |

| RECONSTRUCTIVE
UROLOGY |
| Hypospadiasis,
Epispadias and Gender correction |
| ANDROLOGY |
| Single
stage repair for Hypospadiasis and Extrophy/Epispadias, has
been of special interest to the department from the inception.
This includes both primary repair as well as secondary repairs
with complicated fistulas referred from other hospitals. |

Treatment
of Impotence and infertility including penile implants
and Laparoscopic Varicocoelectomy.

| CANCER
and RECONSTRUCTIVE SURGERIES |
| Cancer of the prostate is a
curable cancer if detected early. Radical prostatectomy
achieves this by complete removal of the gland.. The department
routinely performs Radical Prostatectomies and Radical
Cystectomies (for bladder cancer) with complete reconstruction
of the urinary tracts. |

| LAPAROSCOPIC
HERNIA REPAIR |
TEP
(Trans Extra Peritoneal) Laparoscopic hernia repair of
both primary and recurrent and bilateral hernias are done
at a single stage.

| PAEDIATRIC
UROLOGY |
| Laparoscopic
surgery for intra abdominal pathology (Undescended testis,
Congenital Obstructions etc.) and endoscopic treatment
of urethral problems are dealt with routinely. |

| The
second department in mid and south Kerala to have a high tech Urodynamics
lab, enabling detailed studies of voiding abnormalities of both males
and females. |
