A deformity to the nose occur when the bridge of the nose fall and appear scooped out. Main cause of which is considered to be an injury to the septum. The problem is most common among boxers and athletes. Patients with saddle nose require rebuilding the nose from inside out. Saddle nose can be diagnosed through thorough nasal examination. There are many surgical procedures to reconstruct the nasal structure. The different reconstructive options may vary according to the degree of sagging.
Some of them include:
- Inert bioimplants
- Synthetic compound etc.
Among the above mentioned methods, three main methods are- autologus grafts, homologus grafts and alloplastic synthetic grafts.
Autologus Grafts: The material will be retrieved from the patient itself and grafted to the required area through a small incision
Alloplastic synthetic grafts: There are different forms of alloplastic synthetic grafts. Most reliable among them are- Polyamide mesh (Mersilene), Polytetrafluoroethylene ePTFE (Gore-Tex), high density porous Polyethylene (Medpor).
