Face lift

A facelift, also known as Rhytidectomy is the surgical procedure done to improve the noted aging signs on the face and neck. Wrinkles, saddle face, deep creases, loss of skin etc. can be tackled with the facelift procedure.

In short, facelift is a procedure that indents bring back the youthfulness in an individual. But, it cannot change or recreate the fundamental appearance of the individual. Even though there are certain non-surgical rejuvenation treatments, it will not be able to achieve the same results of a facelift surgery.

An ideal candidate apt for facelift surgery should be:

  • Healthy without having any complicated medical conditions.
  • A non-smoker.
  • Having realistic expectations and positive outlook towards the surgery.

The first step for the procedure is administering medications to comfort the patient during the surgery. It will be done with the help of a general anesthesia or surgery. The doctor will choose the best option for you according to your health condition and requirements. Next step is to make the incision. It may vary according to the result that the patient wants to get. According to which, the option may include:

  • A traditional facelift
  • Neck lift
  • Limited incision facelift or

Incisions in a traditional facelift will begin with the hairline at the temples. It will pass through around the end at the lower scalp. The underlying tissues in the face will be repositioned using fat from other parts of the face, neck or the jowls. Usually, the muscles and deep layers are also lifted during the procedure. The skin will be pulled tight over the uplifted profile and excess skin will be cut down. If the patient wish to improve the aging neck, an incision will be made under the chin to do it.

In limited incision facelift, smaller incisions will be made at temples, around the ear and under the upper lip or lower the eyelids. A neck lift is done to correct loose neck skin, dropping jowls, and fat build-up under the chin.

The third step in a facelift surgery is the incision closing. The incisions made will be closed with sutures. There can be bruising and swelling after the procedure. This will be reduced within a few weeks. The final result will be visible when swelling and bruising subside completely. It is important to follow the instructions of the surgeon during the recovery period.
